ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. She and her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played a variety of sports as a child, but only began to play soccer at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, Morgan joined Cypress Elite's team. They took home the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and came in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan was able to continue to improve her soccer skills while at Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has selected Morgan to be an All-American Athlete. She also participated in the Olympic Development Program's state and regional divisions. Morgan advanced her soccer skills at UC Berkeley, where she played a key role in leading the California Golden Bears team in scoring from the very beginning of the season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was among four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This made her the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed as the top player on the list. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third-highest number of goals and points in Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at the collegiate and national levels throughout her education. Morgan was injured in the ACL during her first year as a Berkeley player. Morgan was unable to practice with the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April 2008. In the following season, Morgan scored her first goal for the international team at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team took home a gold medal and she scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's United 20 Championship in Mexico. One of these was the win goal in the match against Italy that brought the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and he led it to victory against France. Morgan was the youngest player on the team, and was the one who led them to victory over Japan.
