Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

 Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 was an American retired artistic gymnast. She was twice Olympian. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who won their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in the floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal for the balance beam, making her the most recognized American gymnast in the Games. She was awarded gold in the team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas was her teammate and received gold. Raisman took home silver medals for the all-around individual and floor exercise. Raisman won silver medals for the all-around individual, as well as for the floor exercise. She also is two-time champion in the national championships on floor exercise (2012 in 2012 and in 2015), the 2012 national champion on balance beam and she has won five medals in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2010, 2011, 2012, and the 2015 season). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, a former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in the fact that I can not just represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community throughout the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her first attraction to gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was practicing for the Olympics.
