Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and was a part of her early years living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago while she was in junior high. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the mother of two sisters: Betsy and Lori, and a brother Joe. Amy has traveled across Europe as a family member as well as alone. Since her parents were teachers who taught, they could spend the entire summer traveling and camping across the United States. In fact, they have been camping in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy also went to Rwanda after the 1994 war to help in relief efforts. Early on, Amy showed artistic talent acting in school productions as well as winning contests to write. In high school, she excelled in athletics winning the first ever 3200-meter relay for girls in Illinois track. After suffering an injury, Amy returned to college and played many parts on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson’s “Fifth of July” and then directed Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon”. Amy went to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated with a cum laude, an B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympics and Acting at The Actor's Center. After graduation she was offered a permanent for the no-longer-running soap drama Another World (1964). In the category of "Outstanding support actress on an Daytime Drama Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. The most memorable of her roles include of strong women, such as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen in Peacemakers (2003) alongside Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson resides in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist in Les Savy Fav, where she is also employed in the music industry as an independent business as a part-owner of the independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is still working in the field of film and writing.
