Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29 September 1931-11 January 2015.) was an Swedish actress, famous for her stunning physique and attractive appearance. Her role as Sylvia in Federico Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita (1960), made her well-known. Ekberg predominantly worked in Italy which she later made her permanent residence in 1964. Anita Ekberg was the sixth child of eight. In her teens, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg was influenced by the advice by her mother in 1950 began to enter Miss Malmo. This resulted in her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she won. Despite not speaking much English the contestant traveled to the United States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in that period, the pageant officially became official in 1952). Ekberg did not win the title of Miss Universe winner, but she was one of six finalist. The contestant did get a contract with Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was an Universal starlet, where she learned acting, dancing, and drama. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) as well as The Golden Blade (53).
